Department of Arid and Desert Land Management
The Department of Arid and Desert Land Management is one of the key disciplines within the faculty, established in direct response to the specific climatic needs of the region. Given that a significant portion of Iran is classified as arid or semi-arid, challenges such as desertification, soil erosion, water scarcity, climate change, and their socio-economic impacts underscore the necessity of training specialized experts.
This program equips students with the scientific knowledge and practical skills required to address the unique limitations and potentials of dryland ecosystems. Areas of focus include sustainable land-use practices, erosion control, water and soil resource policy, as well as botanical and ecological studies in arid environments. Well-equipped laboratories, workshops, and a diverse range of specialized courses are among the department’s major strengths.
For motivated students, the true advantage of this program lies in the integration of theory and practice. Through hands-on field projects in dryland regions, students have the opportunity to conduct research with tangible applications—directly contributing to the management and resolution of local environmental challenges
